Josh at imsolidstate came across an extra battery charger, so he decided to turn it into a spot welder. We've seen spot welder projects in the past, however his goes the extra mile, adding a digital control circuit and current monitoring capabilities, to give precise control over the welding operation. This was an attempt to make a small furnace that could be used for semiconductors and fusing fiber optics. It didn't work so well, but it might be worth trying again in the future.

Using a carefully constructed plastic bezel, a potentiometer, and some regular LEDs, they were able to create a faux digital dial, with a way cooler color scheme than one would find on regular seven segment displays. Nice hack!

Then he upped the ante by cooling the LED lighting bank with circulated tank water, exploiting what waste heat the LEDs do generate to warm it, and thus saving even more power that would otherwise go to the tank heater.
